(AKI) - One day after a conservative parliamentarian was granted police protection in Italy over threats she received for criticising the Muslim veil, health minister Livia Turco suggested Tuesday that Italian female policy makers and activists set up a bipartisan lobby to fight for women's rights to wear or don the veil. "I ask Muslim women and those who choose to wear the veil to join an alliance so that no woman will have to wear the burqa (which covers a woman's body, head and face), headscarf or other signs not as a choice but as an imposition," Turco also said."We must stand united in a battle for women's rights," she added (mais aqui).

Quando no próprio país um político não pode expressar o seu pensamento sem necessitar de protecção policial, estamos perante uma democracia ocidental de sucesso. Então quando o perigo vem de forças exteriores ao próprio país ainda melhor.
