It is very touching that this song is about the same woman that both Eric and George loved in the past. Eric stole her from George and even wrote two songs about her - Layla and Wonderful tonight. I think her name was Patty Boyd, but I'm not sure.
It is amazing to see how these musicians navagate through this song with such craftsmanship. Together with the orchastration, it has once again become a classic for those of us who have never chartered its course.
Patricia Anne "Pattie" Boyd (born 17 March 1944) was the first wife of George Harrison, of The Beatles after whom she married Eric Clapton. She was the inspiration of love songs written by both musicians. Harrison purportedly wrote "Something" (though he has later denied this in interviews, such as those given to Japanese reporters during his famous early 90's Japanese tour with Eric Clapton) and "What is Life", while Clapton wrote, "Layla", "Wonderful Tonight," and "Bell Bottom Blues."

Rest in peace Georg Harrison.
We miss you.
